A loan of $350 helped buy goods (sardines, oil, crackers, pasta and more) for resale.

Armandio Goncalves's story

Amandio M. Gonsalves was born in the Namaacha district, of the province of Maputo, in southern Mozambique. Orphaned by his mother and father, he grew up with uncles. He completed grade 6 but did not continue due to lack of funds. He is the father of two sons, one whom goes to school. He lives in his own home with his family and does not support anyone besides his children.

He has never been out of the district. He has his own business selling basic goods from his home. He has been doing this for more than four years. He does not have any employees and has monthly earnings of 4,000 MT which he applies to household expenses and manages to save some to his bank account.

He has never had loans from other banks. He knew of Hluvuku through his neighbors who are clients of the institution. This is his first Hluvuku loan for the amount of 10,000 MT with which he would buy goods (sardines, oil, crackers, pasta and more) to increase the amount of his inventory.

He is committed to paying promptly in order to have access to other loans in the future. He intends to apply for a new loan to build an awning to provide more comfort to his customers.
