Merilyn's story

Merilyn V. is from the village of Tinaclaan, Clarin, Misamis Occidental. She is 42 years old. Merilyn is married and has four school-aged children. To make a living, Merilyn owns & operates a general store. The main source of income for the business comes from selling a variety of different products in the local community. Merilyn has been engaged in her business for over one year and earns approximately 10,000 PHP a month for these activities.

In 2011, Merilyn joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. Merilyn is requesting a loan of 10,000 PHP which will be used to purchase additional grocery items for sale. This will be the first loan taken out by Merilyn from GDMPC. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.

GDMPC is one of the most progressive cooperatives in Mindanao, Philippines. It has seven branches covering the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Occidental. Its membership is composed mostly of farmers, fisherfolk and small entrepreneurs.
