A loan of $550 helped to buy rice, meat, chickens, and more ingredients for the preparation of meals.

Porfiria Benedicta's story

In the parish Ayacucho of the canton Santa Ana, the Communal Bank Amigas Por Siempre [Friends Forever] meets every two weeks. This place is known for its vegetation but above all for its beautiful sweet water spas. The spas are visited by many local tourists as well as by tourists from other parts of the country.

Porfiria is the founding member of the communal bank. She likes it because of the simplicity of getting loans since they don't require too much. She is 59 years old, is married, and has six children from this relationship. Two have died and the others are older in age and are independent. Her husband works in agriculture.

She has a small restaurant in a tourist site called El Badén de la Poza [The Dip from the Puddle]. There she rents a place where she prepares delicious entrees for the tourists that arrive in great numbers on the weekends and holidays. She works Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. She works alone. She tells us that she has had the restaurant for four years and that it has always gone well for her. The entree that her customers order the most is broth and dry Creole chicken.

She is going to use this loan to buy rice, meat, chicken, and other ingredients for the preparation of the food.

Her dreams are to have her own tourist place since it brings in good earnings.
