Chiclayo, Peru / Motorcycle Transport

A loan of $550 helped to have maintenance work done on her vehicle and to lay flooring in her home.

Maritza's story

Maritza is a 35 year-old woman. She has three children in her care: one is 18, one is 12 and the youngest is 8. The family lives in Chiclayo - Lambayeque province.

Maritza's husband is away from home owing to his work in the civil engineering trade which he carries out in Cusco department. However, he sends home a small sum of money each week to cover their expenses.

Maritza owns a motorcycle taxi. Motorcycle taxis are a very common means of public transport in Peru, particularly in small communities. They consist of a motorbike with a cabin in back for transporting passengers. This motorcycle taxi is used by Maritza's eldest son who works to help his mother with his younger siblings' education expenses.

Maritza is requesting a loan for 1,500 Peruvian soles from Edpyme Alternativa which she will use to have some maintenance work done on her son's vehicle and also to have some improvements carried out at home, specifically fixing her floor.
