Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $1,000 helped to purchase herbs and spices.

Luisa's story

Luisa belongs to the "Pro Desarrollo" community bank in the town of Pisac, province of Calca, department of Cusco. She is 36 years old, married and has two children, ages 13 and 11. She alternates her work as a retailer buying and selling emollients and as spice merchant. She purchases flaxseed, barley and other healthy herbs and spices wholesale. Once she boils and infuses them, she puts them in a cart set up to sell the items. She works after 6 p.m. at a corner in her neighborhood. Luisa is requesting the loan to purchase more herbs and spices. She is grateful and wishes to express that she will be disciplined in repaying the loan.
