Carmela's story

Carmela is a 51 year-old mother. She lives with her husband and three children in her own home which benefits from the basic services of water and electricity. Her store is located in her specially-adapted living room. Carmela's home is located in the rural area of the countrysiD. of La Arenita, 15 minutes from Paijan district, 30 minutes from Ascope, one hour from La Libertad department (Trujillo). These areas are noted for their high levels of commerce, farming, livestock raising and tourism. Carmela has set up a store in her home in which her neighbors can find all sorts of food products (milk, sugar, rice, candies, etc.) With the small business that Carmela has set up in her home, she tries to proviD. her family with a better standard of living through her daily sales. Through a visit to Edpyme Alternativa, Carmela acquired a loan for 2,000 Peruvian soles which she will use to stock her store with more supplies. She will thereby be able to meet her customers' needs and increase her own income. Carmela is known by her neighbors as a cheerful woman who is ready to help others. She is also known as a responsible woman whose goal is to get her family ahead in life through her efforts and hard work.
