Maria Maritza's story

Maria is a wife and the mother of a family of two children. She is 36 years old and she lives in the suburban region (in poor conditions) of the district of Lambayeque. It is a small community which consists of approximately 100 families.

For the past 2 years Maria has been providing motorcycle rickshaw services (a public transportation service that is very common in small communities in Peru. The vehicle consists of a cabin in the rear section used for passengers). The public transportation services that Maria provides is usually work that is performed by men in Peru. But she has known to adapt to difficulties that she has encountered along the way. The income that she earns with this business she is able to help her husband with the household expenses.

Maria is an industrious woman who, aside from being a rickshaw driver, she also has a pet store. This helps her to have additional income that she spends on her children.

Maria requests from Edpyme Alternativa a loan of 700 nuevos soles and she will invest in the purchase of a tarp (a type of awning that encloses the cabin of the rickshaw) and in the renovation of the seats of the vehicle. This will permit her to have more clients.

Maria is a long-time client of Edpyme Alternativa (Kiva Field Partner) and she has an excellent payment record.
