A loan of $550 helped to buy materials to make reed straw hats.

Maria De La Cruz's story

Maria is 36 years old and has two minor children. She is a single mother and lives with her parents, who support her, in an urban neighborhood in the district of Ciudad Eten, just a few minutes from the district of Chiclayo.

Maria makes reed straw hats for a living and is an expert in what she does. She knows the craft to perfection because she learned it from her mother. Maria has been making hats for 17 years and has many fixed customers in the area who are admirers of her work.

She is requesting a loan of 1,500 PEN through Edpyme Alternativa, which she will use as working capital to make hats. She will buy materials to make more hats than she usually produces so she can generate higher earnings and improve her children's and parents' quality of life.

Maria is new to Edpyme Alternativa but is already involved in communal banking. She does not have competition in her business location and feels like she is the leader in her area.

Maria is a hard-working woman who wants to provide the best she can for her children while teaching them the importance of striving to become better each day through effort and dedication.
