A loan of $350 helped to buy fabric.

Rosa Teolinda's story

Mrs. Rosa Pérez is a member of the village bank Narancay Bajo. She lives in the parish of Tarqui, which has a cold climate and vast plains where the people raise cattle and practice agriculture. Many commute daily to the city of Cuenca to work in various jobs. The people there are very polite and friendly.

Rosa is 49 and a single mother of 2 children, 18 and 15 years old. Her oldest son works and helps with the household expenses. The younger daughter studies in a high school in the city. She does not have her own home, so she rents.

Rosa bargains for milk in her parish and she sells it in the city. She has been doing this for one year. In her home she mends all kinds of clothing, a trade that she learned in sewing school.

This is her second loan with the village bank and she will invest the money in the purchase of fabric to continue with her sewing work.

Her dream is to have her own home.
