A loan of $700 helped to buy inventory.

Sonia's story

In the state of Oaxaca there is a community called San Miguel Soyaltepec, which has a large lake which provides abundant fishing and work each year. It’s also known for the presence of the Cerro de Oro hydroelectric dam.

Sonia lives here. She is 29 years old and only has a junior high school education. She is the single mother of a little girl who attends the local elementary school.

Sonia says that she decided to start working in her own business two and a half years ago because she was able to earn more selling and also have more time to spend with her little one. She tells us that she sells cosmetics, perfumes, and sheets to her friends and neighbors in the community. She also says that now that she has some time selling, people know who she is and this helps get more customers and sales. She sells her products through catalogs, first showing her catalogs, taking orders, placing the orders, delivering them to her customers, and getting paid.

She needs this loan to invest in catalogs, cosmetics, and perfume to be able to make sales. She believes that this investment will mean more sales and earnings and would like to be able to send her daughter to university. She would also like to start a pizzeria in the community.

She is grateful to the foundation for believing in her and granting this loan.
