"Renacer" (Rebirth) is a communal bank characterized by its responsibility and the high level of participation in its reunions, plus solidarity among the 8 members.

I., the mother of 1 son, used to work in a factory. Following its liquidation, she decided to invest in her own shoe business. Things didn't go very well because customers constantly demand new models and merchandise was left over, causing some losses. This led I. to begin investing in toys, gifts for the home, purses, and small jewelry; that is, creating a small bazaar that did so well that the bank decided to grant her loans. The business advanced and she bought a computer to produce documents. The nearby government office requires that official documents be digitized. Later, she obtained a photocopier that is very useful because there is no competitor nearby.

I. is thankful to God for all that she has today and for not having to worry so much. One of her goals is to continue to grow, to better proviD. for her son, and for the baby she expects in 5 months. She is very content about that.

I. needs the loan to buy merchandise, including gifts for mothers, like purses, cosmetics, jewelry and household adornments. Shortly, they will be celebrating a season when there will be increased demand.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
