A loan of $775 helped to buy iron, solder, paint, etc.

Angela Yahaira's story

The “Trabajando Para un Futuro” (Working for a Future) communal bank meets every two weeks in Rocafuerte Canton. This place is known for the delicious sweets residents prepare that are famous throughout the country and for the warmth of its kind, hard working residents.

Angela is a founding member of the communal bank and she likes it because the interest rates are lower than at other credit institutions. She’s 30 years old and is in a common law relationship. She has three children who are 10, 6 and 5 years of age; all are in school. Her husband is a Master Metalworker.

She is a very good housewife. In order to help out her husband she’s taking out this loan for his business. He has a metal shop where he does a variety of jobs like: doors, windows, gutters, etc. He works from Monday through Saturday from 8am until 6pm and has two helpers that he pays a weekly salary to. At the same time, our friend raises chickens and other barnyard fowl. She tells us that her husband has had his shop for six years and that, thanks to God, he’s never lacked work.

This loan is to buy iron, solder and paint, among other things needed for this type of work. Her dream is to have a house of her own.
