A loan of $725 helped to buy seed.

Emilio's story

Emilio is 64 years old and a native of the Quimbiri district. He’s married to 51 year old Maura, they have six children, and live in their own home in the Villa Quintiarina community of the Quimbiri district. Emilio works on 20 hectares of land that he has, where he raises cacao, coffee, and peanuts. He is no stranger to hard work, has been doing it for 38 years, and continues to do so. It’s important to him because it’s his primary means of income. He’s managed to turn this activity into a family affair and his children help him at harvest time. He also employs field hands to help with this labor and to move the harvested products to locations where they can be transported to points of sale by car.

He feels very committed to his work because; thanks to his efforts he now enjoys having his plants in good shape. He says that during the winter his work gets harder because he then needs to protect his plants from blights and insects.

This will be his 12th loan through MFP and he knows that if he repays it on schedule he will be able to qualify for additional loans in the future, with peace of mind, and without creating problems for the rest of the members. He will use the money from this loan to buy peanut seed and sesame seed to expand his crops.
