A loan of $450 helped a member to purchase onions for resale.

Benkadi Group's story

This BENKADI group is composed of married women with an average age of 28 and on average, three children. They live in nuclear families with their children and spouse. These women reside in the town of BOUGOUNI which is part of the third administrative region of the Republic of Mali. They know each other because of being business colleagues.

With the intention of growing their working capital so as to satisfy the needs of their clientele, they decided to join the Microfinance Institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to sell soap, cereals, and, in the case of Djénébou S., onions. They are on their second group loan and the preceding was correctly reimbursed.

With this loan, Djénébou S. intends to buy five sacks of 50 kg of onions from wholesalers in Sikasso, which will be sold retail, for cash or credit, at the big marketplace of the town on Bougouni to a clientele composed essentially of women.

With this loan the women expect to make a profit of 10,000 F CFA per month which they say will be used for their businesses.
