A loan of $3,025 helped a member to buy sweet peas.

Kelenya Group's story

The nine members of the group KELENYA are all married, and they average 45 years of age and three children each. The women live for the most part in polygamous families in SANOUBOUGOU I, a district in Sikasso City (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They are on their eighth collaboration with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso in order to satisfy the needs of their customers. The past loans have been correctly repaid.

This group of women does commerce in children's clothing, bed sheets, pagnes (colorful West African cloth), and sweet peas, as in the case of Ms. RAMATA T..

RAMATA T. intends to use her loan to buy 500 kg of sweet peas at the main central market of Sikasso. The peas are resold for cash at the bus station, at the market of SANOUBOUGOU I, and at the house. The customer base is composed of women and men.

She envisions making an average monthly profit 110,000 francs CFA that will be used for repaying the loan and for day-to-day family expenses.
