Nancy Isabel's story

Nancy N. lives in the Ciudad Modesto neighborhood located in the southwest part of the city. She has a business there selling merchandise, especially footwear. She is a married woman and has 6 children ranging in age from 25 to 35. Nancy started her business in 2005 in search of additional income to improve her family’s living conditions which up to that point had been solely her husband’s responsibility. She started out selling beer with an initial capital she saved from household expenses, money her husband would give her for family support.

Her goal is to expand it and use profits to do some home improvements. Even though she has little working capital, she continues working hard to increase it generating a net profit rate of 26% with a 10 day accounts receivable turnover because she sells on credit and has a sizeable clientele that buys in large volume.

She is currently applying for her first loan from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo and will use her Kiva loan to buy a quantity of beer as well as assorted merchandise she has pending customer orders for due to the approach of one of Colombia’s most important family occasions that brings heightened spending: Mothers Day.
