A loan of $375 helped to buy chickens and goats.

Bimala's story

This is 51 year-old Bimala S.. She is married and has one child, age 6. In 2005, she established her meat shop business. Working 7 days a week and 8 hours a day, she supoorts her family. She has already received and successfully repaid 4 loans from Patan BPW and used her most recent one to buy goats and chickens for her business.

In the future, Bimala plans to improve the economic condition of her family. She thanks you for your support. In Nepal, the meat is always fresh. In small stalls along busy roads, open air butcher shops sell chicken, goat, and water buffalo by the kilo. The stalls are piled high with product and sales are brisk.

With the help of a Kiva loan, BPW's borrowers are able to purchase additional stock at better prices. This increase in purchasing volume creates greater profit margins for the borrower. This loan was administered by Kiva's local partner MFI, Patan Business and Professional Women. Patan BPW became Kiva's first field partner in Nepal in 2007. Patan BPW operates throughout the Kathmandu Valley, offering microcredit and business training programs to low-income women. In addition to providing economic opportunity to their clients, Patan BPW seeks to empower Nepali women within the home and community.
