A loan of $375 helped to buy 10 cones of wool and five pounds of alpaca wool in different colors.

Lidia Maruja's story

Lidia is a member of Las Retamas communal bank, located in the Puno district, Puno province and department. She is 44, married, and has 3 school-aged children. She herself studied through secondary school.

Her first loan with the Manuela Ramos Movement was for 200 new sols which she used for her retail handicrafts business. She makes wool hats, stoles, sweaters, etc which are sold in hotels. With this loan of 1000 new sols, she will buy 10 cones of wool, and five pounds of alpaca wool in different colors. Lidia works by herself since her husband works in civil construction, and at times he is a driver.

Her dream is to have her business grow and to have a restaurant outside the city. What she likes most about the communal bank is the punctual meetings and the educational talks.
