A loan of $150 helped to purchase two dozen sweaters, skirts, blankets, shirts, aguayos, etc.

Julia's story

Julia is a member of the community bank "Las Retamas" which is located in the Puno district in the province and department of Puno. She is 45 years old, is widowed and has two children. Julia's level of education is elementary school.

She has been working with field partner Movimiento Manuela Ramos for a year. Her initial loan was for 200 nuevos soles (PEN) which she used in her business selling clothes. Julia buys her clothes in Desaguadero so that she can sell them at the different markets in the city.

With this new loan of 400 nuevos soles (PEN) she will buy two dozen sweaters, skirts, blankets, shirts, aguayos (multicolored wool cloth used for adornment or as carrying bags) and a general assortment of clothes.

Julia's dream is to improve and expand her business. What she likes about her community bank is the terms of the loan.
