A loan of $1,050 helped to invest in grocery items.

Martina's story

Martina is originally from the municipality of Ocampo, Michoacán, where the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is located and where the people know each other well and are tranquil and enjoy the beautiful countryside. She is a very happy and responsible person, and is part of the group's committee where she serves well in her role.

18 years ago she decided to start a business to support her family's income and to help her daughter continue with her studies. Martina is a hardworking and enterprising woman. She has a small grocery store and she also sells tamales, corundas [a similar dish to tamales] and pozole [hominy soup] outside of her house at night. Her dedication to getting ahead pushed her to be a merchant and to be independent.

The loan from Fundacion Realidad has been of great benefit to her since she now has more income thanks to the opportunity the loan gave her. She invites women from her community to get ahead by starting their own business, since she has put a lot of effort into her work and is an example for women in her community to follow. She has demonstrated to them that with effort and dedication they can improve their quality of life.
