A loan helped to purchase more inventory of second-hand shoes and clothing.

Luz Marina's story

Luz, age 43, is from the department of Estelí; she is married and has four children, aged 23, 22, 18, and 12. Luz earns her living selling second-hand shoes and clothing. She started out selling fritangas (a deep-fried dish) on the streets of Estelí, but in 1992 started the second-hand clothing business thanks to a loan from a financial institution.

Luz sells her products in her neighborhood and also goes out on sales trips to the town called San Pedro Susucayan located in the department of Madriz; she needs to take a two-hour bus ride to get there. Luz's husband helps at home and works as a public transportation chauffeur.

Luz is asking for a loan to purchase more inventory of used shoes and clothing. With this loan, she hopes to expand her client base and increase her sales which would allow her to improve her income. In the future, she would like to have her own store in the commercial center of Estelí. Her next goal is to purchase a pick-up truck to transport her inventory and sell her products.
