Martha Victoria's story

Martha M., age 47, is married and has four children aged 21, 18, 16, and 10. Her husband is a policeman; they have a house of their own. Martha is a member of the communal bank Mujeres de la Bahía; she lives in the city of Azogues which is known for its colonial-era charm and its beautiful churches. Its people maintain their culture and traditions.

Martha makes her living selling fruit and vegetables in the city market. She has been employed in this line of work for 32 years; she started it when she had just turned 15. Her work schedule is from Sunday to Sunday, from 9am to 6pm. Martha is now in her eighth loan cycle and plans to use the funds to purchase fruit and vegetables. Her goal is to grow her business.
