Maria Liz A. was the focal point for beginning this group. She invited and organized her friends to form the “Comité de Mujeres Emprendedoras” (Committee for Entrepreneurial Women).

Maria Liz A. sells clothing and now she wants to begin selling cosmetics. She’s been married to Ignacio R. for 16 years. He works for a large company. They have four children, three in junior high school and one three year old daughter. Maria Liz requested a loan to buy products that will provide a better assortment in her businesses (coats, sheets, creams, colognes, and cosmetics).

Some day she would like to open a store in downtown Luque and in that way be able to increase her income to provide the best for her children.

All the members of the committee are hard working women hoping for a better quality of life for their families. They have approached this institution hoping that they will get the assistance that they need.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
