Cuencanitas (Cuenca) Group's story

The Cuencanitas community bank is made up of eight very charismatic, cheerful, hard-working and enterprising women. They each work in their respective businesses without neglecting their families. Their jobs have enabled them to help their households financially and they feel very proud of this fact. The women live in different parts of the city of Cuenca. Cuenca is a cold-climate city. It is surrounded by four rivers and has a beautiful historic center. Its people maintain their culture and traditions.

Mónica A. lives in Chilcapamba sector, in the city of Cuenca. She is 27 years old, married, and has three children aged 9, 6 and 2. Her two eldest children attend a local elementary school. Her husband is a construction worker. They don't own their own home but live in a rental house.

Mónica started her business two months ago. She sells clothes, especially pants. She also sells Yanbal-brand cosmetics. She sells her products throughout the city, to her family members and acquaintances.

This is the first loan Mónica has accessed through her community bank. She will invest it in buying clothes and cosmetics.

Mónica's dream is to own her own home.
