A loan of $1,100 helped to buy rice, sugar, detergent, oil, sausage and other basic needs products.

Angela Eva's story

The communal bank "Nuevo Amanecer" holds its meetings in Bajo de Montecristi in the province of Manabí. It is a small place surrounded by plush vegetation and its inhabitants are involved in different business activities, some being merchants and others factory workers.

Mrs. Ángela is a founding member of the communal bank which she has been part of for 15 years. She likes belonging to the bank because of the loans it has always helped her with. She is 75 years old, married and has 12 children, who are all adults. Two children still live at home. Her husband is retired.

She has a small grocery store in her home and sells all kinds of products such as rice, sugar, oil and detergent, among other things. She works every day from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and her children help her when they are not busy. She purchases her products in Montecristi and some are delivered to her. For 15 years she has been in business, the same length of time she's been in the communal bank. She used the first loan to get started and she is very grateful to the institution.

This loan will be used to stock the store with more goods such as rice, sugar, oil, detergent, sausage and other basic needs items.

Her goal is to stay healthy and get ahead.
