A loan of $2,975 helped a member to buy food.

Nuevas Amigas (Cuenca) Group's story

The Nuevas Amigas (New Friends) community bank has nine members (one man and eight women). They all work in different businesses which allow them to contribute financially to their households. They live in different parishes and sectors of the city of Cuenca. This is a cold-climate city which has beautiful natural landscapes to visit. It is the third most important city in the country and was named a World Heritage Site in 1999. Its people are all very kind and friendly.

Diana C. is receiving her first loan through the community bank. She was invited to join by a friend who is an active member of the bank.

Diana is 19 years old and single. She lives in her grandparents' home and helps them out financially. She studied for two years in a sewing academy and she has been carrying out her profession for one year. She works from Monday to Friday, from 8.00am to 6.00pm, in a factory where they make jeans.

Diana will use her loan to buy food for her household. Her goal is to own a dressmaking workshop so that she can make her own products.
