A loan of $525 helped to purchase fertilizers, insecticides, soil, and pots.

Veronica's story

Verónica is 23 years old and originally from a town called La Mesa where the main business activity is cultivating poinsettias for the holiday season in December. Doña Verónica cultivates ornamental flowers and medicinal plants such as rue (an evergreen shrub), mint, thyme, chamomile, wormwood, and many others. She has been in this business for approximately two years.

Verónica will use this loan to buy fertilizers, insecticides, soil, and pots. She says that she acquires her pots in the city of Morelia Michoacán and the fertilizers in Zitacuaro. Verónica sells her plants from her nursery which has become well-known in her community. Sometimes she sells at the central supply depot in Zitacuaro. She says that one of her siblings taught her how to grow flowers and medicinal plants that sell well in the community.

Doña Verónica is married to Sr. Lucio, who is a day laborer, and they have a six year old daughter who is in elementary school. Her goals for her business are to cultivate other types of flowers and sell them in other states within Mexico.
