A loan of $425 helped to buy shoes to sell.

Marcelina's story

My name is Marcelina and I live in San Francisco, Tlachichilpa. I am 46 years old and was widowed a couple of years ago. The house where I live with my three children was left to me by my husband. I see my situation as being a little difficult because my children want to continue studying so that they can have a better opportunity of getting work and I want to help them to achieve their goals. For this reason, I work selling shoes. I sell the shoes through a catalog and I also sell second-hand shoes in the street market which takes place in our village every Sunday. This is how I help my children as best I can. I can't always support them as I would really like. One of the difficulties I face is that I have to sell my merchandise on credit. My customers don't always have enough money to pay cash and so I have to wait two weeks for them to get their wages before they pay me the rest of the money they owe me. I would like my business to work better and I would like to be lucky enough to get ahead in life.
