A loan of $725 helped to buy irons, toasters, blenders, fans, etc.

Letty Cecibel's story

In the Rocafuerte canton the members of the Dulce Amistad [Sweet Friendship] community bank meet every two weeks. The area is known for its delicious candies prepared by the locals, and they are very well known throughout the country. Its people are warm, friendly and hardworking.

Here we met Letty. She is 30 years old, married and has one three year old daughter and an eight month old baby. Her husband is a civil engineer and she is a teacher at a private institution in Rocafuerte.

She is also a merchant. She sells items for the home, such as irons, toasters, fans, etc. via catalogue. She tells us that she works two hours a day and she also uses her time at the school to sell to other teachers and to the mothers who come to the institution. She has been doing this for a year and a half and she started the business with the first loan she received from the bank.

She will use this loan to buy itmes for the home such as: irons, toasters, blenders, fans, etc. She has been in the community bank for 4 cycles and she likes it because thanks to the loans, she was able to finance her business.

Her dream is to open a grocery store.
