A loan of $1,350 helped a member to buy scrap metal.

Nuevas Amigas De Mercedes Group's story

The “NUEVAS AMIGAS DE MERCEDES” (Mercedes' New Friends) community bank is starting its first loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Cascada regional office. The group has nine members and is run by a board of directors which is led by Claudina. The businesses that the group's members carry out are varied and include: importing watches, sewing clothes, working as an assistant builder, making cotton handicrafts, selling CDs, starting up a new business, machine knitting and selling jackets.

Claudina tells us that this is the first time that she has been part of one of Pro Mujer's community banks. She joined through an invitation from the promoters. Claudina currently has a business selling scrap metal which she has had for one year. She learned the business from her friend.

The loan that Claudina is currently taking out will be used to buy scrap metal (which will increase her capital). She will then sell the scrap from her home every day from 8.00am to 6.00pm. This work allows Claudina to make money to support her family as best she can. She lives with her partner and has six children.

When we asked her what she likes about Pro Mujer, she replied that she likes the health services.
