Fatoumata's story

Ms. Fatoumata Sangaré is a 30-year-old married woman and the mother of one child. She lives in a nuclear family with her child at her husband’s place in the Dougounina district of the city of Bougouni. For years she attended Koran school but dropped out when her parents were stricken by poverty. In order to join the working world, she became interested in revenue-generating work, especially the buying and selling of various shop goods. She learned this business from her younger brother. With two years of experience, she is mastering her business and is much in demand.

Fatoumata, who is on her first loan, joined the loan program of the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso through her mother-in-law. She intends to use her loan to buy a major quantity of merchandise for her shop. She gets her supplies in Bamako and in Bougouni. Accepting cash or credit, she makes her sales retail to a diverse and varied customer base.

With this loan, she plans on making a monthly profit of 60,000 francs CFA. With the profits, she envisions expanding her shop.
