A loan of $550 helped to buy nutritious animal feed.

Socorro's story

56-year old Socorro is married and doesn’t have the responsibility of children to look after. She and her husband live in their own house located in Chulucanas District, in the region of Piura, more than four hours from the town of Chiclayo, the capital of Lambayeque region.

Socorro has raised sheep for more than three years. She has specially built, large pens for the animals. Once the sheep have reached an ideal size and weight, she sells them in the local market. Her husband also works on the same plot of land that they inherited.

Her greatest wish is for her livestock to reach the best weight and size possible before she sells them. With the income she will buy more animals to fatten. There’s no doubt that she will succeed, as the inhabitants here are known for their entrepreneurial and vigorous spirit. To achieve her goal, Socorro has asked Kiva partner Edpyme Alternativa for a loan of 1500 soles.
