Idrissa's Group's story

Salone Micronfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, is very pleased to present to you teachers of the Sinkunia Junior Secondary School from Kabala town in northern Sierra Leone. This school was founded in 2005 by a UNICEF-sponsored project “Sababu Education” to promote education in the region. The school is staffed with 11 employees and has 225 pupils.

Staff from various school and other government offices within SMT's operational areas come to SMT to seek loans. At the end of each month, these institutions' bursars are directly responsible for deducting the repayment from their salaries and pays SMT on the teachers' behalf. With the help of these loans, these teachers can do or buy things that their mere salaries alone can not do or buy.

The leader of this group of teachers is Idrissa S.. The 32-year-old Idrissa was born in Makeni. He has been in the teaching profession for seven years now. He is married and has two children who are attending primary school and secondary school. Mr. S. is going to use his share of this loan to invest in his farm and to pay his college fees.
