A loan of $725 helped to buy two bags of seed to grow peas and potatoes.

Luisa's story

Luisa is 48 years old and has lived with her significant other, Mario, for 30 years. They have five children, only one of which lives with them in the farmhouse they own in Huanchan. Luisa has been farming for 28 years. Her main crops are potatoes, peas, maize, and beans, which she plants on her 18-hectare farm.

What Luisa most enjoys about her work is selling her harvest in the local markets so that she can see the results of her hard work. She also raises small livestock such as cows, pigs and rams. After raising the animals she sells them at a higher price, averaging about 150 PEN per animal and higher for male animals.

Her greatest challenge is lack of working capital, since she can't rely on daily income. Luisa belongs to the “Unión Huanchan” community bank, and this is her third loan with MFP. She is grateful for the continuous support from her bank. It is the beginning of a new planting season and Luisa will invest this loan in two bags of seed to grow peas and an Andean variety of potato.
