A loan of $1,125 helped to buy 800 kg of yams and other items.

Afou's story

Mrs. AFOU T., age 44, is married and the mother of six children. She lives in a monogamous family in Dialakoroba, a village in the second administrative region of Mali (located 45 kilometers from Bamako, the capital).

Early on, AFOU T. became interested in income-generating activities and started selling various products, such as yams. Eager to better meet customer demand, she joined the loan program from Kiva's partner, Soro Yiriwaso, from which she's seeking her sixth loan. All previous loans, out of which three were group loans, were repaid without problems.

With this loan, she intends to buy 800 kg of yams, and various other small items at the Sikasso market. She resells at the market in Dialakoroba and Sanankoroba, for cash and on credit, to a very diverse clientele. She hopes to turn an average monthly profit of XOF 200'000 (ca US$ 440), to be used to repay the loan and contribute to the family's expenses.
