Zoila Balvina's story

Mrs. Zoila Z. P. is a member of the San Vicente community bank, which belongs to the parish of La Victoria del Portete. This place has a cold climate. Its people work with cattle and farming. A lot of them go every day to the city of Cuenca to work in different activities.

Zoila is 42 years old. She is married and has 4 children, aged 20, 18, 15 and 13 years old. Her oldest son works and helps with the household expenses. Her three younger children go to high school. Her husband works as a bricklayer in contruction. Zoila has done embroidery for 20 years. She has a small workshop in her house and she learned this job by working at it. She works every day depending on how much work there is and has no set schedule. She also raises guinea pigs, pigs, chickens and sheep, which are for her consumption and to sell.

In the community bank, her loan will be used to invest in buying a cow to grow in this activity.
