A loan of $550 helped to buy perfumes, creams, jewelry and other products.

Elizabeth Mercedes's story

The communal bank "Damas de Progreso" meets every 15 days in the San Cristobal neighborhood of the city of Portoviejo. This city has been known for many years as the "City of the Valley," because it is surrounded by mountains that make it unique and beautiful.

Here we find Elizabeth, who is 20 years old and is a single mother of a 2 year-old child. She lives in her parent's house. She is in her 6th semester of medicine at the Technical University of Manabi.

Elizabeth is a great mother who, in order to get ahead and have something for her future, has a business selling Yanbal products (beauty products, perfumes and accessories for women.) Every day she goes out to sell her products in the area where she lives, and she also takes advantage of the opportunity to sell to her classmates at the university. She sells on credit, and collects every 15 days. She tells us that she has had this business for 2 years, and it has been going very well.

This loan will be used to buy perfumes, creams, jewelry and other products. She has been in her communal bank for 6 loan cycles and she appreciates the loans that have helped her a lot, and her fellow group members, who have been responsible.

Her goals are to finish her degree and become a great surgeon.
