A loan of $550 helped to buy fizzy drinks, water, bread, sausages, meat and other ingredients for her meals.

Sonia Narcisa's story

The Banco Comunal Los Tres Ángeles (The Three Angels Communal Bank) meets every fortnight in the Montecristi Canton, a place renowned for its rich pre-colonial culture and for its arts and crafts, celebrated both at national and international level. It is also the homeland of the famous Toquilla straw hats. Sonia is a founder member of the Communal Bank, and she likes it because the interest rates are lower than those of other institutions and also because she has made many friends in the group. She is 45, she is married and she a 4-year-old child. Her husband is a laborer working in the town of Manta. She is a very good housewife who also engages in preparing and selling sandwiches and fast foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, doughnuts, colas and water among other things. She works every day and she told us she started this activity with the first loans she was granted from the Communal Bank. She will use this loan to buy fizzy drinks, water, bread, sausages, meat and other ingredients to prepare her meals. She dreams of having another child.
