A loan of $200 helped to buy stock items for her store.

Mercedes's story

Mercedes, 55, is married and has three adult children. She lives in her own house at the entrance to Monsefú District, an area known for its tourist and religious festivities. The main activities that take place in this settlement are: flower growing, crafts and cattle raising. The area is rich in vegetation and the community is very small. The area has basic utilities like electricity and running water and has a drainage system in the planning stages.

For over 8 years Mercedes has had a small grocery store. She sells her customers and neighbors various daily use products of first need and groceries. The business is well received due to the good quality of the products she stocks and the good customer service she provides. Her store has a well established customer base since it’s one of the few in the area. In addition, she also makes various crafts to sell so she is quite well known in the area.

She wants to use the loan to buy school supplies to stock in her store which will allow her to respond to demand because the new school term has begun in Peru.

Mercedes is very hard working. She has good personal and work-related references. People who know her hold her in high esteem and affection.
