A loan of $4,550 helped a member to buy vegetables.

Nueva Ilución Group's story

The “NUEVA ILUCIÓN” ["New Hope"] communal association is starting its thirteenth loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Santiago II regional center. It is composed of 13 members, and its president is Maria. The businesses operated by the members of the communal association are diverse, including food services, glass sales, Entel [telecommunications] service point, potato sales, chicharrón [cooked pork] sales, weaving, toy and stuffed animal sales, handicrafts, clothing sales, blanket sales, milkshake sales, and jewelry.

María, the president of the communal association, reports that she has participated in Pro Mujer for a year and a half, and she joined by invitation.

Currently, María has a business selling food, which she has operated for twelve years. She reports that she learned this business from her mother, because she had helped her with it in previous years. The loan that she will receive now is to buy vegetables, which she generally buys in La Ceja and sells in Nuevos Horizontes every day. This type of work allows her to generate resources to contribute to her family, since she is married and has two children.

When she is asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she responds that she likes everything.
