A loan of $550 helped to hire day laborers who will prepare her field for the next planting season.

Elena's story

Elena is a 62-year-old woman who lives with her husband in their own home. Ever since childhood, she learned everything she needed to know about working the fields, so it is that she regularly grows potatoes, corn, beans, and wheat, among other crops, which are then sold at the wholesale market. She works the land with the help of her family, but when more help is needed, she hires day laborers so that she can plant or harvest in less time. She also makes use of oxen or a tractor in order to maximize her work. Nevertheless, the low temperatures harm her plants and production. Still, she presses on with her work because she knows that just like there are times of shortage, there are times of abundance, and this idea inspires her to keep moving forward.

This is the first time that she obtains a loan from MFP. She is very happy to be a part of her community bank because she has heard that working with it is advantageous, and she commits herself to be punctual with her repayments. The loan that she is requesting will be invested in purchasing fertilizer and paying the day laborers who prepare her crop fields for the next planting season.
