A loan of $1,075 helped to buy sacks of organic manure.

Lorenza's story

Lorenza, 42, is a brave single mother who cares for her son, Jefferson, 8. She lives with him in her mother’s house located in Tiambra hamlet. She heads out to the fields she inherited from her parents every morning in Chacapampa hamlet where she’s farmed potatoes and peas for the last 9 years. But, according to what she tells us, the size of her field is small so she also leases other fields in order to plant in greater amounts because she has to work very diligently to cover her son’s educational expenses; she dedicates most of her spare time to him.

What she enjoys the most about her work is the tranquility working in the countryside entails. “When I travel to the city of Tarma to sell my crops the noise from the traffic befuddles me," she mentions. Now she is preparing to harvest the “Yungay” and “Única” variety of potatoes that she planted a few months ago.

She is a member of the “Santa Rosa de Tiambra” communal bank and this is the sixth loan with MFP where she is grateful for the support she gets for the work she puts into each planting season. Lorenza will use the requested loan to buy several sacks of organic manure to spread among her fields.
