A loan of $725 helped to buy seed and fertilizer.

Elena's story

Elena is 54 years old and lives in a home of her own along with her husband, 58 year old Fidel, and three children. Fidel is a farmer and her children help with the daily chores. Under the blue skies of the serene landscape, this hard working woman begins each day with her farming chores. She gets up with the sunrise and goes out to care for and maintain her fields. She and her husband raise potatoes, peas, and beans. They are rewarded after months of work, when they harvest their crops and sell their entire harvest to different wholesalers in the zone. The wholesalers take the products to the city. She says that the work in the fields is not very complex because the entire family works together to get ahead.

Since she is an enterprising woman, she is considering increasing her crop of peas in the future, because its price is stable in the market. This will be her fifth loan through MFP and she is very grateful to all those who helped make this loan possible. It will allow her to continue working without difficulty.

She also says that she is very happy to work with the other members of her communal bank because they make their payments on time and they have a good relationship between one another.

She will use the money from this loan to buy good quality pea and potato seed, as well as guano and other fertilizers. This will ensure that the next crop will be successful.
