Dorine A. O. is a married lady. Her husband is a trader and they have six children aged between twenty-three years old and twelve years old. She owns a clothing sales business in which she sells second-hand clothes to the local people. Her business is located at the busy Oile market in Kisumu. She also goes to other market centres outside Kisumu town for specific market days. Kisumu is the region in Kenya known for production of fish. It harbours Lake Victoria and is commonly known as the Lake Basin.
Dorine has been in this business for twenty years now. She says that this business is profitable and the major challenge she has is lack of a permanent place to run her business, making it difficult to work for long hours as well as retain customers. However, she works very hard to keep her business doing well. She is using her loan of Kes 60,000 to buy more clothes to grow her business and meet the demand of her customers. She hopes that in future, she will be importing clothes, shoes and bags. She describes herself as tolerant and responsible.
