A loan of $675 helped to purchase fruits and legumes.

Shirley Gina's story

The Communal Bank “Dios Con Nosotros” (God with Us) meets every fifteen days in the neighborhood of Florón in the city of Portoviejo, the capital of Manabí which is also known as the City of the Valley since it is surrounded by many hills.

It is in this place one can find Sra. Shirley. She is 22 years old, in a common law relationship, and has a four year old daughter. Her husband is a merchant. She is participating in her second loan cycle with the Communal Bank and likes the fact that there are few requirements necessary to access the loans because they have been a great help to her husband’s business.

Shirley is an excellent homemaker who wants to help her husband access a loan for his business. He has a stand at the market in city of Portoviejo where he sells fruits and vegetables. He works Saturdays and Sundays from 5am to 2pm. From Monday to Friday, he works at the same market unloading cargo. They have had this business for three years. Previously, her husband worked with her father but he wanted to become independent and start his own business.

This loan will be used to buy fruits and legumes. She dreams of having her own house that is well-built since she and her husband currently live with her in-laws.
