A loan of $900 helped to purchase perfumes, trinkets, cosmetics, and crèmes.

Mariuxi Elizabeth's story

The Communal Bank “Mujeres Con Esperanza” (Women with Hope) meets every fifteen days in the parish of Eloy Alfaro in the city of Manta. This place is known for its beautiful beaches that are visited throughout the year by both domestic and foreign tourists. Manta’s port, which lies on the Pacific Ocean, is one of the largest in the country and in all of the Americas.

It is in this place that one can meet Srta. Mariuxi. She is 20 years old, single, and lives at home with her parents. Mariuxi is in her first year of undergraduate study at a college in Manta. She is participating in her second loan cycle with the Communal Bank and likes the fact that the loans help people like her who study and manage a business at the same time.

Mariuxi sells Avon products from catalogs (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes, and women’s accessories). She sells door-to-door and works every day. Mariuxi says the products that she sells most are perfumes and accessories. Her products are offered on credit and she collects payments on a weekly basis. She says that she enjoys selling.

This loan will be used to buy perfumes, trinkets, cosmetics, and crèmes. Her dreams include continuing her studies so that she will be a successful professional someday and helping her loved ones.
