A loan of $550 helped to buy fertilizer for his coffee plantings and articles for carpentry.

Jose Porifirio's story

José is a 53-year-old father. He is married and has 5 minor children who are still dependent on him. They live in their own home, which does not have basic services such as electricity and water. The only source of water is a small stream which passes through their land. José lives in the district of San Felipe, a rural area, in the province of Jaén.

For more than 30 years, José has worked growing coffee, corn, beans and yuca. Currently, he has 1 hectare planted with coffee, and he expects to harvest between the months of April and June, obtaining 4 more quintals [large sacks] of coffee, 20 quintals of beans, and 15 quintals of corn. He would like to invest part of his loan in fertilizer for his coffee plantation, and also in removing weeds from his land. Considering that the price of coffee is rising to levels it did not reach in previous years, investing in fertilizer to increase productivity is a good option. He also works as a mason, and he would like to make some small purchases of articles for carpentry. For these reasons, he has decided to request a loan from Edpyme Alternativa in the amount of 1500 Peruvian new soles. José is very hard-working and extremely dedicated to his family. He is always trying to ensure their well-being and development.
