A loan of $375 helped annet will use her loan to buy more braids, weaves and chemicals for her hair salon.

Annet's story

Annet has operated a hair salon for the past 5 years. She is also the secretary of the Matale Lending Group where she has been a member for the past 2 years. She is 25, single, and has one child. She is requesting a Kiva loan so that she can buy another hairdryer, more braids, weaves and chemicals for her salon.

Traveling around Uganda, you can see that hairstyles change with the regions and the tribes. In and around the urban cities of Kampala and Entebbe, women prefer braids and weaves. In the more rural areas, women often wear scarves or keep their hair short without adding braids. Braids and weaves are not usually real hair and take considerable time to apply, so the poorer residents of rural areas do not go in for braids and weaves as they are more expensive.
