María Rosario's story

Sra. María D. is a member of the Communal Bank “Feria Libre” (Open Fair). She lives in the sector of Miraflores in the city of Cuenca. This city is known for the richness of its historical center, its natural beauty, and the variety of cuisines that captivate the palates of locals and foreigners alike. The people are extremely friendly and cordial.

Doña María is 46 years old, married, and has six children (ages 24, 22, 21, 19, 14, and 12). Her oldest child, a son, is disabled. The second child, a daughter, works and helps with the household finances. Her third and fourth children, both sons, attend college and work. The next to last child, a daughter, attends a sewing academy. The youngest, a son, attends high school in the city. Her husband works as a security guard. They own a small home made of wood.

Sra. María has been selling food for twenty years. She works Sunday through Sunday from 6am to 6pm. María also raises chickens and guinea pigs. She has been a member of the Communal Bank for three years. Her new loan will be invested in the purchase of materials to build the roof of her new house which is currently under construction. Her goal is to buy a vehicle.
