Houenoussou 1 Group's story

The 16 entrepreneurs in this group live in the Sémé-Podji district of Cotonou, Benin's economic centre. They run similar businesses, and also arrange social events together. This is their first loan with ALIDE.

Elisabeth (with her hand raised in the photo) was born in 1973 in Porto-Novo, the administrative capital. She moved to her current location 12 years ago, and now lives with her husband Thomas and the two of their six children who are still at home. All of their children have been to school. Since moving to Cotonou Elisabeth has run a stall selling food at a local park. This loan will enable her to purchase wheat, condiments, and rice to prepare her food for sale. Her aim in the long term is to build her business.
